I wrote these songs for our sons Aodan and Owen when they were between the ages of 0 and 3. Every now and then you may hear a baby gurgling in the background.

I deliberately didn't record them with accompaniment. I think this makes it easier for children and parents to feel that they can sing them themselves, at any time, in any place, without instruments or backing, just as people have been doing for centuries.

The songs are deeply influenced by my love of unaccompanied Irish traditional singing.

I hope you enjoy sharing them with your own children.

I'm a bird and I fly in the sky Flappy Flappy, Flappy Flappy I'm a bird and I fly in the sky Flappy Flappy, Flappy Flappy I'm a bird and I fly in the sky I like to watch the world go by I'm a bird and I fly in the sky Fly, Fly, Fly I mention other things that fly in the song, but, to be honest, you can include anything. Sometimes I ask for requests from kids themselves when I do song workshops. Some of the responses have included rockets, witches, houses, dogs, ... whatever they can imagine flying! Include their own names for extra fun.

Once upon a time There was a little boy Who lived his life upside-down And everywhere he went He was upside-down And everything he did He was upside-down Once upon a time There was a little boy Who lived his life upside-down And everywhere he walked He was upside-down And every time he slept He was upside-down Once upon a time There was a little boy Who lived his life upside-down And everything he ate He was upside-down And everything he said he was upside-down Once upon a time There was a little boy Who lived his life upside-down And every time he read He was upside-down And every song he sang He was upside-down And people always said that his face was very red But it didn't seem to matter to him Once upon a time There was a little boy Who lived his life upside-down

The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea In a beautiful pea-green boat, They took some honey, and plenty of money, Wrapped up in a five-pound note. The Owl looked up to the stars above, And sang to a small guitar, "O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love, What a beautiful Pussy you are, You are, you are, you are! What a beautiful Pussy you are!" Pussy said to the Owl, "You elegant fowl! How charmingly sweet you sing! O let us be married! too long we have tarried: But what shall we do for a ring?" They sailed away, for a year and a day, To the land where the Bong-Tree grows And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood With a ring at the end of his nose, His nose, his nose, his nose! With a ring at the end of his nose. "Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling Your ring?" Said the Piggy, "I will." So they took it away, and were married next day By the Turkey who lives on the hill. They dined on mince, and slices of quince, Which they ate with a runcible spoon; And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand, They danced by the light of the moon, The moon, the moon, the moon! They danced by the light of the moon.
